Getting started
What Rivok is, what a round looks like, and what to do in your first two minutes.
Rivok is a real-time territory game for up to 100 players in the browser. You start with one small area, take land from your neighbours, and try to be the last one standing. No account needed to try it.
A round from start to finish
- The lobby. Pick an open lobby and join. Rounds start on a countdown; empty slots are filled with bots so a round never waits for a full house.
- Pick your starting point. When the round begins you click a spot on open land. You get a small area and a starting force there. Take a moment — a spot with few neighbours and a coastline is far easier to hold than one in the middle of a crowd.
- Expand. Click land next to yours to attack it. Neutral land is cheap, other players are not.
- Build. Your land pays points. Points buy buildings that make you grow faster, hold ground harder, or unlock aircraft, boats and missiles.
- The end. The round ends when one player is left. In public rounds that means one human — the remaining bots don't keep it running.
Your first two minutes
The single most common mistake is standing still. Land is what pays for everything, so the first thing to do is take some.
- Attack the grey. Unowned land costs far less to take than a defended player. Grab as much of it as you can reach before your neighbours do.
- Watch your troop bar. Attacking spends troops, and they grow back on their own. If the bar is empty you cannot do anything — wait a moment rather than throwing the last of it at a border.
- Spend your points. Points pile up and do nothing on their own. An early FOB makes troops grow faster and pays for itself quickly.
- Don't pick a fight you don't need. Every player you attack remembers it. Early on there is usually more free land than there is reason to start a war.
Reading the screen
- Top left — your troops and their cap, your points, and how much of the map you hold. The percentage is of the conquerable land, not of the whole map including ocean, so a finished round adds up to 100%.
- Bottom — the action bar. Everything you can build or fire, with its current price. Prices go up the more of a thing you own.
- Right — the leaderboard and your border neighbours. Click a player to look at their numbers and to offer an alliance.
- The
?button, top right — every key and every building on one screen, without leaving the round.
Accounts, guests and ranking
You can play as a guest without an account. Guest rounds are not ranked and nothing is saved. With an account you get an ELO rating, match history, clans and friends. Ranking only counts human opponents — see Alliances & ranking.
Maps
Two kinds. The world map is the real one, with real coastlines. Procedural maps are generated and different every time. They also differ in size, and that matters more than it looks: on the big world map everything costs more points, because prices scale with the map. The action bar always shows the real price, so trust it over any number you read here.
